My goal for the entire year of 2015 is to become more organized.
I was never a clean or organized person growing up. In fact, my room was always a disaster and my dad would tell me I was living in a “pigsty”! I think once I was in college and started to grow up a little, I realized that I liked to keep my things organized and clean. I had pretty bad anxiety and clutter just added to my stress. The past few years have been hard for me to stay organized because there have been so many life changes for me and my family that I couldn’t keep up. Fred and I got married and had a baby before our one year anniversary, and we’ve moved four times in the past five years! 2014 was the year of Apollo, and I definitely got the nesting bug while I was pregnant. I did a pretty good job of getting everything as organized as possible for Apollo’s arrival, but it’s been slightly difficult trying to keep everything like I had it before he was born.
Pinterest and youtube have so many “how to get organized” pins and videos that I’m feeling really motivated and pumped to get everything in order! I’m not sure how far I want to take this, because I could really go crazy and have bins labelled for everything in the house and even make a cleaning schedule… but I honestly think that’s what it’ll take to keep everything in order and give my brain a break. If I can just look at a list that says “Tuesday- Clean the bathroom” and not even have to think about it, then I’m sure I’ll feel less stressed out about it and it will actually get done. Plus, Fred isn’t good at staying organized without some help, so I figure if I make it really clear for him then it’ll be a lot easier and more fun.
I bought a planner from the $1-$3 bin at Target. It’s a standard planner with the whole month calendar, and then individual days with lines to write down details for each day. I’ve started filling it out for the entire month of January. For some reason I can’t use my phone as well as a hand written planner. Is anybody else like that?
I’m considering taking some before and after photos to document the whole process, especially if it ends up working out really well for me. I think I’ll do some updates throughout the year to show what I’m doing, what works for me, and hopefully motivate others to get organized!
What are some of your favorite ways to stay organized? Do you use a planner?
