I’m one of nine kids, seven of them being girls. Growing up, people would always ask if I wanted to have a lot of kids and my immediate response was “no way!” Our house was always loud, with people running around and the phone ringing off the hook (this was obviously when land lines were still your main phone). Now that I’m older and have two kids of my own, I can look back at my childhood and appreciate the chaos in a whole new way. My family is my entire world and the madness of children, toys, clothes, and food everywhere is something that I love about my life. When I think about how big my family is, I can now say that I’m extremely lucky with how I grew up. I have 5 older sisters, so I witnessed so many things before any of my friends. I saw my sister’s go to prom, learn to drive, and go off to college years before I would experience it myself. I’m fortunate to have the family that I do.
In a few months, every girl in our family will have at least one child. I think we’ve all become much closer after becoming moms. It gives us a stronger bond than just being sisters. We can now experience motherhood and raising children together. All of our kids are under the age of 6, so we can talk about anything involving the kids and totally relate to each other.
Today we were able to go to our sister Alex’s baby shower. She is the last girl in the family to have a baby and we’re all super excited for his arrival. Her in-laws threw the shower, with a nautical theme and really cute decorations. It looked like something from pinterest! I was able to snap a few pictures, but not many because Apollo was diving for my camera the whole time!
