This smoothie is all about the herbs and minerals to help with energy and stress, specifically maca. The base of the smoothie has a fruit blend with cherry, banana and acai, plus gluten-free oats and a maca powder. I used maca from Gaia Herbs that also contains holy basil, which helps balance stress hormones and how your body functions during stress. There are also powerful antioxidants and plenty of magnesium to help with calming your nerves and for inflammation. I sprinkled on some hemp seeds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, the Qi’a blend from Nature’s Path and a bit of gluten-free and vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips (I’d swap these out for cacao nibs if you have them).
I would recommend trying to get really in tune with how your body is feeling. Do you get muscle cramps, lack of sleep or find it hard to concentrate? I’ve realized that when I start to feel stressed out, my body doesn’t process the vitamins and minerals that I’m eating as well as it should, so it’s almost a double whammy affect. I’ve made a huge effort to really focus on what my body might be missing or need more of to see how it improves my mood and the way my body feels. I am definitely going to continue using holy basil on a daily basis to see how it helps with stress long-term.
