My go-to smoothie bowl combination with frozen bananas, raw cacao powder and unsweetened almond milk. Why eat something boring for breakfast when you can have a tasty smoothie bowl instead?
Let me just preface this with the fact that I certainly do not eat a fancy smoothie bowl every day for breakfast. I generally make these on my days off from work when I have a little bit of extra time in the morning to treat myself. On the days that I do work, and I have to be up at 4:30 in the morning, then I will usually wait until I’m at work to eat something (one of the many perks of working in a grocery store. I have soooo many options for breakfast!). After many trials and failures, I’ve narrowed down frozen bananas and raw cacao powder as my top smoothie bowl combination. Raw cacao doesn’t have any sugar, but the frozen bananas add the perfect amount of sweetness to balance it out. I prefer to use unsweetened almond milk in my smoothie, and just enough to make sure that everything keeps moving around in the blender. I prefer the consistency to be almost like soft-serve ice cream, and too much liquid will make it runny and prevent the creaminess and thickness that you need to eat the smoothie out of a bowl. I like to add some coconut flakes, raw cacao nibs and raspberries on top, or even more banana and almond butter. There are endless options, and it tastes like you’re eating ice cream for breakfast!
We’ve started “spring cleaning”, in an attempt to declutter our home. The amount of stuff you accumulate over time with two kids is astounding! I have to go through their clothes every season and sort out what still fits them and what we need to donate because they are constantly growing. The same goes for toys and art supplies. Luna has always loved to draw and paint, but we break crayons on a daily basis, and she fills up her drawing pads at an alarming rate. She makes elaborate drawings and tells us the stories behind each picture and character, and it makes me super curious to see how she will be as a teenager with her art. Add into the mix that my husband is a musician and we’re all creative people, so we are always making and doing things. I would love to have a room dedicated to all of our art one day (#goals)! Is anybody else tackling a big cleaning project?
You could easily sneak in some spinach, spirulina or other greens, but the color will probably change. You can find another smoothie bowl recipe for energy here, or more smoothie bowl ideas with fruit. Tag me on instagram if you post a picture of your banana and cacao smoothie bowls!
