A delicious vegan cacao mushroom latte that’s coffee-free and not too sweet. This mushroom beverage has vitamins, minerals and is completely vegan.
I just spent five days in California for work and it was so fun and also SO tiring. We walked the entire Natural Products Expo – which was insanely huge and there was so much to see! It was really cool to see all of the new brands and products coming out this year, and also meet a bunch of people that we currently work with already.
We are already a huge mushroom family and eat them all the time, but we also take them as supplements and add them to smoothies. Mushrooms are going to save the world – and a ton of brands are adding mushrooms to their products. I’m really excited about it and I’ve been adding mushroom powder to my drinks in the morning.
My favorite combination is this vegan cacao mushroom latte because it’s not too sweet, coffee-free and has a ton of healthy ingredients. You can also add coffee to this mix if you want the additional caffeine, but this is surprisingly energy boosting with the maca and cacao alone.
Vegan Cacao Mushroom Latte with Coconut Oil
You can also make a cold mushroom latte by blending the mixture with a handful of ice cubes – perfect for the summer time! There are two different types of powdered mushrooms that I like to use and you can really use whatever kind you like. I usually use this one from Om Organic Mushroom Nutrition or their maitake blend. It doesn’t have a strong flavor and it works well in this mushroom latte or in smoothies.
I also like to use a mushroom powder by Four Sigmatic – the mushroom coffee mix with chaga is my favorite so far. It has a pretty strong, bitter flavor so I usually mix that one with coconut milk and a dash of black strap molasses or maple syrup.
As always, you can adjust the ingredients to make this sweeter, stronger, colder, richer, etc. The most important thing is to add the mushrooms, maca, cacao and molasses (for iron)! Enjoy and happy snow day!
Vegan Cacao Mushroom Latte

- 2 tsp mushroom powder
- 3-4 tbsp cacao powder
- 2 cups almond milk
- 2 tsp maca
- 1 tbsp coconut butter
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 tbsp sunflower lecithin
- 1 tbsp blackstrap molasses
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- Add all of the ingredients to a pot over medium low heat and whisk to combine. Be careful not to let the almond milk come to a boil.
- Once everything is warm and completely dissolved, carefully transfer the mixture to a blender and pulse for a few seconds until you have a frothy beverage.
- Add to a mug and enjoy warm!
